Nicole Ari Parker was born in New York City. Nicole Ari Parker is an American actor in stage and films. Her most famous role is was that of Teri an ardent attorney Teri Jospehson on the Showtime show Soul Food. Following her marriage, she is also known for her role as Nikki Kodjoe. The stage was the place she appeared for a number of shows early on in her career. Parker, who is engaged in politics and is married model and actor Boris Kodjoe. They have two children together.

The family was born from Mumbai, India and raised in Nigeria until the age of seven. Contractor was well-versed in world travels and a variety of cultures at a very young age. After attending boarding school over seven years London Her family then moved to Toronto Canada where she lived for the majority of her childhood as well as her early years of adulthood. In Toronto, Contractor excelled in academics and trained as an classical ballerina. She was a student at an Etobicoke School of the Arts, a specialized public arts high school, where she did not only dance but also studied theater. She also earned an advanced degree in theatre. Contractor was a participant in the highly acclaimed Stratford Shakespeare Festival in Ontario, Canada, for Pericles. After one full year of auditions, she was offered the leading role. The play received rave reviews and her performance in the 92 shows performed the play was voted the production of the year by Canadian critics in 2002. Contractor was given the chance to join Stratford's conservatory course, in which the top eight men and four females are selected to take a crash course of 20 weeks on classical theater which she was eager to take. Contractor received a guaranteed spot for the following season. She was also offered the role of Hermia.
